Our Story
Tres Hermanas PR began with three sisters who loved books and wanted to share that love with children in Puerto Rico.
In 2017, our family moved to Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, just before Hurricanes Irma and Maria. After the storms, we spent months without electricity, water, or internet. What kept us going? Books. We read together, shared stories, and found comfort in the worlds that books opened for us.
But we quickly realized how few books were available to children around us. The local university library had only 80 children's books, and our school's small library reached only a handful of students. We missed the easy access to libraries and Little Free Libraries we had known in the Bay Area.
That's when we had an idea: why not bring Little Free Libraries to Aguadilla? In 2018, we built our first bookshelf in a local park and filled it with children's books. Kids came, read, borrowed, and shared. And we knew we were onto something.
Today's Mission
Today, Tres Hermanas PR is a youth inspired, youth led, and youth run organization with support from some dedicated adults. We collect new and gently used children's books from across the U.S. and ship them to Puerto Rico, stocking Little Free Libraries and community spaces where kids can discover the joy of reading.
Our mission is simple: to give children in Puerto Rico the same access to books that so many kids take for granted. Every book sent is a chance to spark imagination, learning, and hope.
